My Story
MY PERSONAL STORY
I come from Poland where I lived until I was 5 years old. Since then, I have been traveling the world with my parents, as a young professional and then as an expat with my husband. Living in many different countries molded me to be adventurous, curious, willing to take up challenges and, most importantly, being humble and understanding towards others. To name a few: Poland, Sweden, Great Britain, USA, Canada, China, Serbia, Croatia, Switzerland, and Germany are all places I feel assimilated in, and from which I have learnt wonderful pieces of culture and language!
MY PROFFESIONAL STORY
My first real work after studying languages and cultural studies in Zagreb was in the travel industry. I was developing LOT Air Tours, a travel agency of Polish Airlines, at the end of the 1980s when real tourism in Eastern Europe was just about to flourish and the Berlin Wall was soon about to fall. During those years I also worked and lived in London, UK and in Ottawa, Canada. The big political changes that were fast approaching Poland after the formation of the Third Polish Republic and 1991 parliamentary elections moved Poland from a planned economy to a free market. I decided to be part of this big transformation and moved to Warsaw to work for Levi Strauss & Co, opening 24 Original Levi´s Stores in Poland. Marketing became my passion, and I was hands on learning new skills in promotions, advertising and PR, which later brought me to another corporate giant – IKEA. Working in a trans-national environment only elevated my understanding and appreciation for cross-cultural relations that, nowadays, play a unavoidable role in all lines of work.
After 15 years of an intense career path, I was ready for a change. My full attention went to starting a family, which became the best project of my life. Being a mother was the most challenging work of all and demanded an immeasurable level of responsibility. Also, it made me play my own childhood memories like an old movie where I would analyze my own parents parenting and mistakes they have done while bringing me up. This exhausting, but very rewarding, self “psycho-analysis” taught me not to judge others as you never know their story insofar as merely the circumstances you found them in.
After a few years of family life and when our son was ready for school, we moved to Shanghai, China. The years of 2000 were set to be a dynamic period in the development for China, which we definitively wanted to be part of that. I remembered China, particularly Beijing from 1987 when one had to walk from the airplane to the arrival hall and every single person was dressed in a grey-like uniform. That was history now and the focus was on building elevated highways, constructing high rise buildings and developing high tech solutions among others.
The 10 years in Asia were very inspiring and allowed me to pursue my interests and hobbies. I have always collected stones, rocks and shells and I finally had a chance to make use of that hobby. I started designing semi-precious stone and silver jewelry and established a trading company USHI Design in Hong Kong. These were the years when designer jewelry became fashionable again and the world couldn’t get enough of all the beautiful and colourful pearls that are still cultivated in Suzhou, the hometown of fresh water pearls in China.
Simultaneously I was learning the basis of Traditional Chinese Medicine, particularly massage technics and herbs. When it comes to herbs, I have always been an expert in both growing and mixing herbs in my family. I got the knowledge from my grandmother, who passed it on to me from her grandmother. The family Alchemy was suddenly awakened, and I found myself experimenting with Chinese herbs, visiting TCM practitioners and getting firsthand knowledge from Dr Gu Cissy with whom I become friends and met with weekly. I also learnt the importance of different forms of relaxation, both body and mind and the importance of food and diet, including herbs and supplements.
Switzerland became the next stop on our family journey as we felt it was time to take our son closer to his European roots. For me it was a chance to finally practice my new knowledge and passion and systemize my ideas.
Since returning to Europe I have been broadening my interests and knowledge in Diet and Lifestyle patterns that influence our wellbeing as well as various relaxation techniques that help us maintain psychological hygiene and outwit stress and depression. I studied Dietetics and took various courses in complimentary medicine therapies and coaching. I have been working with many clients around the world and through that work I have developed an original concept of Transpersonal Nutrition as well as an original program No Stress Zone, through which I work with my clients helping them lead a healthy and stress-free life.
MY STORY OF CHANGE
“…Give me a hand”, such an often-used expression is the essence of change and I have experienced its deeper sense firsthand… I was living in Shanghai, China at the time and was struggling with my digestive track. The doctors were puzzled about where to find the problem as the lab results were inconsistent, so decided to perform an MRI. I arrived at the hospital not knowing much what to expect… I was lied down and slid into the tube… seconds later I was in total panic, breathless and panting… that was when I have discovered that I am claustrophobic. The young Chinese technician responsible for the procedure didn’t seem surprised and pulled me quickly out from the tube. He was very calm himself and was trying to calm me down, but nothing really seemed to work and further attempts were a complete fiasco. The young man was very determined though to succeed with this procedure thus came up with an idea… He called for another technician, got dressed in a protective coat, took a chair and told me that he will sit just right by my head. He asked me then, that when they will slide me into the tube again, I should have my hand placed along and above my head, not by my body and I should listen to his breathing instructions, following them precisely. He will then reach for my hand and hold it during the procedure. I was very confused and didn’t give it much of a thought, as a matter of fact I didn’t even believe it will make any difference or whatsoever. I did though what he asked for, focused on his soft, calm voice and the breathing instructions. The moment I was placed in the tube he reached for my hand and held me during the whole procedure. Here I was, laying in a Chinese Hospital, breathing steadily with a stranger holding my hand… The whole problem was just gone! Vanished! The fastest therapy ever! The calming voice and the focus on breathing, with the breathing itself have definitively made a difference but the true game changer was the magic and the power of a human hand! This experience changed my view of life forever. I realized, that even though we work hard on our goals, plans and dreams its not natural to make the journey alone. A physical support for our actions, a spiritual one or even the knowing and feeling of support and accountability somewhere out there, is what really makes the change happen.
